A Disaster Management Primary School Guide Pack has been developed in cooperation and agreement with the Gauteng Department of Education. The Guide Pack forms part of the curriculum for Grade five, six and seven learners. Complete lesson plans with the necessary multi-media support and activity books and games for the learners have been developed and are provided to schools free of charge if funding is available ENGEN has acknowledged and supports the initiative through sponsorship to assist with the implementation in various schools, mostly in more vulnerable areas.

The guide pack focuses on equipping learners with the necessary knowledge and skills to minimise the risk of fires and floods and the management thereof as well as the development of an evacuation plan.

The initiative has also received the necessary acknowledgement from the Provincial and National Disaster Management Centre. It has also been exhibited internationally as a “best practice” initiative from the City of Tshwane.
