The three mandates of the Tshwane Metro Police Services in terms of the SAPS Act are road policing, crime prevention and by-law enforcement. Pro-active policing is the division in Community Safety Department that renders a 24 hour policing service to the community. This division is decentralised and aligned to the five regions of the City of Tshwane’s Alternative Service Delivery structure.
The City of Tshwane has a dedicated by-law enforcement centre, the first in the country, which collaborates with officials of other departments to monitor the enforcement of by-laws that fall under their jurisdiction.
Proactive Policing Services are mandated to:
- proactively minimise and prevent crime in the city;
- enforce the law and city by-laws;
- police the roads and reduce road accidents.
