Areas of focus

The Local Economic Development Division focuses on developing a solid foundation for rapid economic growth and development by focusing on the following:

• Development of a credible Metropolitan Economic Development (MED) framework;
• Development of Local Economic Development (LED) strategies and action plans;
• Development of customised sector development strategies and interventions;
• Development of an economic database to monitor key performance indicators relating to economic development of the city;
• Conduct industry competitiveness research and introduce an industrial upgrading programme for prioritised sectors of the economy;
• Prioritise the regeneration of economic nodes in Babelegi, Ga-Rankuwa Industrial, Hammanskraal, Mabopane station, Klip Kruisfontein, Saulsville, Pretoria North, Denneboom and Mamelodi; and
• The development of black economic empowerment (BEE) enterprises through a focused business incubations programme
