The Executive Mayor of Tshwane, Kgosientso Ramokgopa, has congratulated the matric class of 2010. Ramokgopa was particularly pleased that learners of Tshwane have once again topped the tables in Gauteng.
The city is the best in Gauteng, with three of its districts - Tshwane West, Tshwane South and Tshwane North - being among the top five districts in the province.
"The performance by our learners is something to be proud of. They have shown that the people of Tshwane are indeed champions in whatever they do. This is a repeat achievement after our schools performed well and obtained overall position one in the province in the previous years," said Ramokgopa.
"It is also worth noting that all the top five schools in Gauteng - Hoërskool Waterkloof, Hoërskool Menlopark, Hoërskool Garsfontein, Hoërskool Eldoraigne and Afrikaans Hoër Meisieskool - are in Tshwane. They have contributed to Gauteng being the number one province this year. In effect Tshwane is the best performing city in the country for the class of 2010. We also congratulate Filadelfia Secondary School for being one of the top three schools for learners with special educational needs in Gauteng," said Ramokgopa.
"It is also pleasing that our township schools have performed very well. We are particularly proud of Makgetse High School in Temba and Soshanguve Secondary School, which produced many distinctions and therefore some of the best performing learners in the country. This they did despite their taxing socio-economic backgrounds. The performance in maths and science by learners of these schools is heartening. We wish them well for their further studies and say to them: Aim for the sky!" added Ramokgopa.
