The City of Tshwane is geared up to ensure its bus service runs as normal on 15, 16, 22 and 23 February when 125 bus drivers will be appearing before a disciplinary hearing committee.
The city has made alternative arrangements should the disciplinary hearings result in a strike or bus drivers not reporting for duty. These arrangements will ensure minimum disruption to services by redeploying municipal personnel who have the necessary driver licenses and permits to operate the buses.
The disciplinary hearings follows an independent investigation of alleged irregularities at the Tshwane Bus Services. The allegations made, include fraudulent use of bus tickets, collection of fare without issuing tickets to commuters, theft, intimidation and gross insubordination.
The safety of our commuters and employees who will be driving the buses is of paramount importance. The City will therefore ensure that Metro Police is placed on high alert should cases of intimidation or disruption of services be reported.
The city requests the support and understanding of commuters during this period. Commuters are urged to report complaints and service interruptions by calling 012 358 0841 or sending emails to email at busenquiry@tshwane.gov.za or buscomplaint@tshwane.gov.za . Other enquiries may be directed to 012 358 1571/8122/0443/0231.
