Personnel of the Tshwane Metro Police Department initiated a very special drive to collect blankets for those in need of some extra warmth this winter.
The Dunduzela Day and Night Care Centre in Nellmapius Ext 4, in Mamelodi houses underprivileged children and was identified by members of TMPD as the organisation they would want to donate the blankets to.
Supporting this initiative, the Executive Mayor, Councillor Solly Msimanga said he was deeply touched and inspired by this great initiative that demonstrates responsibility and thoughtfulness. "I was excited when I heard of the blanket donation drive project and how it encompasses the essence of Ubuntu – a spirit of caring, sacrifice and of belonging. Ubuntu is about caring for the well-being of your neighbour".
"Our policemen and women are here to instil and provide law enforcement which also means protecting our people. Communities must work with law enforcement and assist them with information regarding criminal acts taking place in our society. We hope to witness many more of such initiatives in the city and we are committed to supporting them" concluded mayor.
"We really appreciate what we see here today. We feel special as this is heart-warming and touching. We know we are in safe and caring hands. To our metro police team, we salute you. Now we know that you care and that we come Tshwane residents come first no matter what" said Elizabeth Masilela, the founder of the centre.
