Learners and teachers from Broederstroom Primary School in Flora Park were delighted when City of Tshwane MMC for Transport, Sheila Lynn Senkubuge, handed them the keys to a bus on 1 August.
The bus will transport learners from their respective homes to school. Pupils are between the ages of 3 and 6 and come from destitute families. The donation is solely meant for schools that have applied and meet the set requirements
Broederstroom Primary School submitted an application after their 24-year-old school bus became economically unviable to maintain. The old bus had continuous breakdowns which resulted in more than 80 learners arriving late for school and/or missing lessons.
Cllr Senkubuge encouraged the learners to take education seriously and study hard. She pledged the City's commitment to the residents of Tshwane – hence, the donation of the bus.
