The City of Tshwane proudly hosted a delegation from our neighbouring African capital, Gaborone. Members of the Gaborone City Council visited Tshwane as part of a benchmarking mission.
The visit stems from Gaborone's participation in the African Capital Cities Sustainability Forum (ACCSF) over the past three years and subsequent engagements with the City to undertake a study visit to share ideas and gain insight into related projects.
The main purpose of this study mission was for the delegation to learn more about waste transfer stations and waste management systems in Tshwane. The Gaborone City Council is in the process of developing a waste transfer station, the first of its kind in Botswana. This mission intended to benchmark on best practices and adopt some ideas as the City of Tshwane is running a waste transfer station to a certain extent.
The annual ACCSF, established and convened by the City of Tshwane, plays a part in recognising the unique role capital cities play within national and international contexts. This platform drives the climate action agenda of cities by advocating the sharing of best practices, stimulating the green economy and promoting sustainable cities in Africa.
