Office of the Chief Whip: Keeping healthy and fit through Councillors Sports Day 2018

    Tue, Sep 11, 2018

Spring has indeed sprung! On Friday, 7 September, the Office of the Chief Whip welcomed the spring season the healthy way by hosting Tshwane Councillors Sports Day 2018, through which City of Tshwane Councillors and top management showed their team spirit on a sport field.

Like the first event last year, this year features multiple sporting activities such as aerobics, tug of war, athletics, netball, cycling and soccer.

The event was not only about playing games but offered a full health check in the spirit of wellness. The health screenings conducted were free of charge and covered blood pressure, blood glucose, diabetes, cholesterol and weight assessment. Promoting healthy lifestyles through education on HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases formed part of the wellness aspect.

Without a doubt, Tshwane as the capital city has to be at the forefront of social cohesion. The day was about promoting councillor wellness and building positive relations amongst them.

Most top management officials made it to this unique event, including the Executive Mayor, Cllr Solly Msimanga; the City Manager, Dr Moeketsi Mosola; and the Chief Whip, Cllr Christo van den Heever.

No rain stopped the order of the day – on the slippery lawns Cllr Msimanga and members of the Mayoral Committee played soccer versus the City of Tshwane Councillors. This was very interesting to watch, and even more interesting when Councillors participated in other blood-rushing activities.

Soccer legends of SuperSport residing in Tshwane participated in most of the games.

The games ended with a lucky draw and a prize-giving ceremony.
