City celebrates Women’s Day (9 August 2019) with walk to the Union Buildings

    Thu, Aug 8, 2019

August is Women's Month and highlights the contributions made by women to events in history and modern society.

The City of Tshwane will join the rest of South Africa in celebrating our heroines on 9 August 2019.

This year, the provincial Women's Day proceedings will take place at the Union Buildings under the theme, Twenty-five years of democracy: Growing South Africa together for women's emancipation.

The event will commence at 09:00 with a 2,3 km walk from the Women's Living Monument at Lillian Ngoyi Square, led by Gauteng Premier David Makhura, to the Union Buildings.

2019 marks the 63rd anniversary of the 1956 Women's March, an act of bravery demonstrated by the women of South Africa. Over 20 000 women took it upon themselves to voice their message to the then administration, the immoral apartheid government.

Parking is available at the Union Buildings, with shuttles to the starting point of the walk. Please arrive early.
