The City's technicians were unable to restore the power supply in the Pretoria Central Business District (CBD), which was anticipated to be back around 21:00 last night. This follows two main feeder cable faults that were reported at the Queen Street substation yesterday morning.
According to the Utility Services Department, there is a recurring trip each time an effort is made to switch the electricity back on. Preliminary investigations into the cause of the frequent trip revealed an underground water pipe leak onto the main cable that feeds the Queen Street substation. Currently, technicians are busy with excavations to redirect the cable. It is not yet known when the power supply will be restored.
The City's technicians have managed to switch power back on to some of the affected customers through a back-up supply.
Sections of the following streets in the CBD are still without power:
- Thabo Sehume Street
- Johannes Ramokhoase Street
- Helen Joseph/WF Nkomo Street
- Paul Kruger Street
- Lilian Ngoyi Street
The City apologises for the inconvenience that might arise from this interruption.
All customers affected by power failures are urged to report the power failures in order for the City to establish the extent of the outage. Customers should report power failures at customer care centres, on 012 358 9999 OR SMS the word "power" to 44676.
Residents are urged to treat all network points as live at all times.
