SMME Development and Support Programme
Background

The small, medium and micro enterprise (SMME) sector provides the community with many opportunities for self-employment. This is one of the reasons the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality regards programmes for developing and supporting SMMEs as a powerful empowerment tool.

The Municipality realises that if the city is to become globally competitive, it needs a strong SMME sector characterised by high levels of skills, quality, efficiency and innovation. The Municipality's vision for Tshwane's SMME sector is of an enterprising and competitive sector.

With this vision in mind, the following objectives have been set for SMME development and support in Tshwane:

• To create an SMME-enabling environment through policies and procedures

• To facilitate and promote information dissemination to SMMEs

• To facilitate skills-transfer and capacity-building services for SMMEs and their support organisations

• To facilitate access by SMMEs to finance and financial services

• To promote access by SMMEs to markets

• To facilitate and provide infrastructure support for SMMEs

• To facilitate regular communication between local stakeholders and SMMEs
