What is the role of disaster management?

Facilitate & coordinate multi-disciplinary response efforts, coordinate additional resources for safety of the events, liaising with role players, risk identification and assessment.

Why is disaster management not at every scene/incident?

Primary responders: The emergency services (fire and ambulance) and SAPS.
Secondary responder: Disaster Management and others.

Who is responsible to provide relief during disaster?

Social Development Division of ICD (Integrated Community Development) and, depending on the magnitude of an incident, disaster management organises and coordinates relief.

When is an incident declared a disaster?

When all the local resources are depleted and the Executive Mayor deem it so.

When do you activate disaster management centre?

When the magnitude of the catastrophe is high and the resources on the scene are not enough to deal with the incident.
