The 89-hectare area was developed into a recreation resort and caravan park that offer visitors a bushveld and farmstyle atmosphere on the city's doorstep. This resort is situated in the third gateway in the Magaliesberg Mountains – hence the name
Derdepoort. The First House of Assembly was established on this farm of Derdepoort on 22 May 1849. The original owner of the farm, Hans Wolmarans, lies buried next to the farmhouse or opstal.
