About WeavingThe Pretoria Weavers' Guild is organising an exhibition About Weaving, which will be held in the Albert Werth Hall of the Pretoria Art Museum from Thursday, 7 August 2008 to Sunday, 28 September 2008 (except Mondays when the museum is closed). Handspun yarns and a wide range of handwoven and felted articles will be displayed. These will include clothing, tapestries, wall hangings and household articles such as table linen, cushions, curtains and carpets. Members of the guild will demonstrate spinning and weaving, and the public will have the chance to follow the entire process of fibres being hand spun into yarn and the yarn being woven in various ways to create useful and decorative textiles. For children there will be a "touch and feel" section featuring unspun silk, cotton and wool, as well as articles made from the spun yarns. Lectures and workshops on aspects of spinning and weaving will be presented, and guided tours can be arranged. In conjunction with this exhibition a fashion show in aid of Cansa will be held on 6 August in the evening. For more information about the exhibition, call Joan Milton on 083 679 1829. |
