Public Safety in Tshwane is, except for the major role of the South African Police Service, also promoted by the CTMM. The two major role players in this regard are the Metropolitan Police Service and the Department of Emergency Management Services.

The core business of the department of Emergency Management Services is to render the following services:

• Emergency Medical and Ambulance Services
• Fire and Rescue Services
• Disaster Management Services

These contribute towards the Department`s purpose, viz

To render a community focused emergency management service to eliminate the loss of life and property resulting from any natural or manmade emergency or disaster.

Services are rendered from 17 fire and emergency medical / ambulance stations.
