IT'S TIME TO BE A KNIT-WIT AND KNIT OR CROCHET A BLANKET FOR MADIBA!
Knit or crochet, it doesn't matter how you do it, but it's time to make a blanket for Madiba. Yes, the City is in! Let your fingers show your love for Madiba's legacy by participating in this very noble initiative where people around the country will be making blankets in support of the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day campaign. The purpose of the initiative is to involve all sectors of society in knitting 21 000 blankets that will be distributed to poor families across the country this winter.
Your blanket will be displayed next to statue of President Nelson Mandela at the Union Building on 21 April 2015, as part of the celebration of the 21st anniversary of our freedom and democracy. Individuals and teams should start knitting or crocheting as fast as they can. There is no more time to waste; we need your blanket by 17 April 2015.
The City of Tshwane has limited wool and therefore would advise residents to secure their own wool. Completed blankets can be submitted to Communication, Marketing and Events Department: Khuthadzo Nevhunama, Isivuno Building, 15th Floor, or call her at 012 358 3958.
The size of the blanket is 140 cm x180 cm. The Executive Mayor, Cllr Kgosientso Ramokgopa, will donate these blankets to beneficiaries of his choice in Tshwane.
