Textile art is moving out of the shadow of so-called fine arts and taking pride of place as in centuries past when tapestries were considered the acme of artistry.
This exhibition features traditional fibre work such as needlepoint and hand embroidery, executed in traditional yarns such as wools and silks; but it also features unusual elements such as rusted metal and rubber.
Weaving, felting, knitting, crochet and quilting are some of the techniques represented in both traditional and unusual guises.
The artists participating are Adele Potgieter , Alex Hamilton, Cherre Ann Hill, Gina Niederhumer, Erica Fraser, Hannalie Taute, Helena Hugo, Kaross, Kathryn Harmer Fox, Leandri van den Berg , Lesley Deysel, Linda Rademan, Maddelein Anderson , Marion Boehm, Marna Schoeman, Mogalakwena, Odette Tolksdorf, Philip Manser , Retha Buitendach, Sally Scott , Willemien de Villiers and Yannis Generalis.
