Categories and Criteria:

1. Accommodation

Sub-categories:Hotels, Lodges, Guest houses, B&Bs and Self Catering Suites/ Cottages/ Apartments

Criteria

  • Establishments must be star-graded
  • Reservation, check -in and general efficiency
  • Cleanliness
  • Service efficiency
  • Food quality and presentation
  • Bedrooms; Space/ comfort/ decoration
  • Bathrooms; Space / comfort / decoration
  • Public Areas
  • Grounds /Parking / Gardens / Security
  • Hospitality, Friendliness, Local Knowledge
  • Must have a guestbook and guest feedback
  • Must have a valid Star Grading Certificate

2. Tourist Guides

Criteria

  • Only registered Tourist Guides may enter
  • Must have a valid first aid certificate
  • Knowledge of foreign language such as German, French and/or Chinese (main source markets for Gauteng) will be to the entrant's advantage.
  • Must abide with the tourist guide code of conduct and ethics
  • Tourist guides must include the category of operation and specialty on their forms
  • Quality of information
  • Punctuality is key.
  • Must provide proof of itinerary showcasing emerging products, especially those located in previously disadvantaged communities, in line with government's transformation objectives.

3. Tour Operators:

Criteria

  • Entrants should meet SATSA's standards/requirements for membership
  • Entrants must be in operation for more than a year
  • Entrants must provide proof that they meet all legal requirements for being a Tour Operator.
  • Entrants must provide proof that they have passenger liability and general public liability insurance
  • Tourist guides must include the category of operation and specialty on their forms
  • The safety and security issues have been considered and form part of the day to day operation of the company-tips for travelers, general security practices like keeping cell phones and luggage out of sight
  • Booking procedure, quality of information offered, punctuality, quality and cleanliness of vehicles must be of required or higher standard.
  • Variety of packages, ie itineraries.
  • Meet & greet quality.

4. Arts and Crafts
Sub-categories: Modern and traditional

Criteria

  • Quality of the product
  • Creativity
  • Uniqueness.
  • Neatness and finishing
  • Customer focus
  • Value for money
  • Registered enterprises will gain advantage

5. Food and Beverage
Sub-categories: Restaurants and Pubs

Criteria for Pubs:

  • Must have a valid liquor license and it should be displayed
  • Display ARA posters, must be visible
  • Appearance of structure/ lay-out.
  • Security measures to be in place
  • Public restrooms: male and female separate
  • Adequate safe parking
  • General hygiene and cleanliness
  • Ambience

Criteria for Restaurants:

  • Must be a legally registered business
  • High standard of cleanliness in all areas
  • Appearance of staff (clean, neat and appropriate clothing)
  • Variety, quality and presentation of food
  • Safe parking
  • Ambience

6. Serviced Attractions:

Criteria:

  • High standard of cleanliness in all areas
  • Ticketing procedure
  • Helpfulness and attitude of on-site personnel
  • Quality/accuracy and presentation of information available
  • Maintenance and general cleanliness of grounds, buildings and restroom facilities
  • Quality and pricing of offering at onsite food & beverage outlet
  • Must be accessible to all, i.e wheelchair

7. Conference venues:

Criteria:

  • High standard of cleanliness in all areas;
  • Meeting, function; exhibition and special events venues to be adequately equipped with the necessary equipment and relevant technology;
  • Clean and user-friendly restrooms;
  • Appropriate lightening and dining facilities;
  • Quality of food and beverages;
  • Service efficiency and friendliness of staff;
  • Accessibility and wheelchair friendly.
  • Adequate safe parking
