How to buy at the Tshwane Market
To buy at the Tshwane Market you must have a market account and a buyer’s card.
There are 3 types of accounts available, viz:
- Credit account
To use a credit account an application form must be completed and a bank guarantee submitted as surety. All forms of payment are accepted for a credit account.
- Unregistered cash deposit account
To use an unregistered deposit account a buyer’s card must be obtained from the cashiers. Only cash is accepted for an unregistered cash deposit account. Funds must be deposited into this account before purchases can be made.
- Registered cash deposit account
To use a registered deposit account an application form must be completed. This account is recommended for buyer’s who do not have a need for credit facilities. Only cash and electronic payments are accepted for a registered cash deposit account. Funds must be deposited into this account before purchases can be made.
- A buyer’s card must be used for all purchases irrespective of which account is used.
- A buyer’s card is obtained from the market cashier for a refundable R10 deposit subject to the condition of the returned card.
- Once the buyer has chosen which type of account to use and acquired a card he/she can immediately procure fresh-produce from any market agent.
- Market Trolleys are available for the buyer to transport his/her purchases from the market agent to the platform loading bays. Two types of trolleys are available:
- Housewife’s trolley for small purchases at a daily rental of R3.10. A deposit of R5 is payable and R1.90 will be refunded to the buyer once the trolley is returned subject to the trolley being returned the same day.
- Market trolley for bulk purchases at a daily rental of R6.20. A deposit of R10 is payable and R3.80 will be refunded to the buyer once the trolley is returned subject to the trolley being returned the same day.
