The City of Tshwane is pleased to report continued progress in the recovery of its water distribution network following the completion of Rand Water’s planned maintenance programme. Most of the City’s reservoirs, towers and supply systems have remained stable throughout the recovery period, with water supply being maintained across most affected areas.
According to Rand Water, the Palmiet System is currently pumping at 89% capacity as it continues to stabilise. Despite the system not yet operating at full capacity, the ongoing improvement in storage levels across Tshwane is a positive indication that the network is steadily returning to normal operating conditions.
Region 1 continues to receive focused operational attention as recovery efforts advance. Reservoirs supplying Mabopane, Soshanguve L, Kruisfontein and portions of the Rosslyn/Magaliesberg System remain at lower-than-desired levels, largely due to the complexity and sensitivity of these networks. While some residents may continue to experience reduced water pressure, particularly in higher-lying areas and tower-fed zones, water continues to be distributed through the system as storage levels gradually improve. Targeted operational interventions remain in place to strengthen recovery and support affected communities.
The Region 3 network remains stable and continues to perform well overall. Most reservoirs are operating at healthy levels and are providing reliable supply to consumers. Although portions of the Magalies, Findlay West and Atteridgeville Low Level Systems are recovering at a slower pace, these areas continue to receive water while storage levels rebuild. Residents across most of Region 3 can expect normal water supply, with only isolated pressure fluctuations possible in some elevated areas during peak consumption periods.
Region 4 also remains stable, with the majority of the network functioning effectively. While reservoirs within the Rooihuiskraal and Pretoriusrand Systems are still recovering and remain under close monitoring, water supply continues to be maintained. Consumers supplied from these systems may occasionally experience lower pressure during periods of high demand, however, the overall network remains resilient and continues to recover steadily.
The City acknowledges the cooperation and patience demonstrated by residents throughout this recovery period. Following a major bulk water maintenance programme, reservoirs and towers require time to refill and stabilise before the system can fully normalise. Encouragingly, all affected systems are showing signs of improvement and recovery efforts continue to yield positive results across the network.
The City remains committed to closely monitoring system performance and implementing operational interventions wherever necessary to accelerate recovery.
