The City of Tshwane is pleased to announce substantial progress at Pyramid Substation. The City has been diligently working on-site to assess the extent of the damage and undertake necessary repair and restoration efforts. Repairs reached a significant milestone with several critical components nearing completion.
Approximately 85% of the cable work is completed, with 630 incomer cable terminations successfully completed. Panel 5, featuring 150 cable feeders to the water treatment plant, has undergone cable jointing and termination. All 150 m2 of feeder cables are now connected and terminated. All 240 m2 of feeder cables have been connected and terminated, marking a substantial achievement.
The installation of the 132 kV circuit breaker is now complete. Our dedicated team is currently engaged in the meticulous task of multicore and control cable installation for the breaker. The installation of the 132 kV isolator is completed, enhancing the reliability and safety of the Rooiwal infrastructure.
Pertaining to the transformer auxiliary, the installation of the NEC (National Electrical Code) is now complete. Rigorous testing of the NEC has been carried out and successfully finalised.
The following significant progress has been made regarding the transformer:
- Key transformer components, including bushings, have been expertly installed
- Oil purification, a vital step in the process, has been effectively completed
- Single cores have been successfully integrated into the system
- Our dedicated team is currently working on the installation of multicore and control cables for the transformer
- Tomorrow, the team is planning to energise the transformer, allowing it to soak before it takes on its full load, ensuring a seamless transition
The installation of the 11 kV switchgear panels is now complete. A critical bus bar pressure testing process has been conducted and tested positive, ensuring the utmost reliability.
Our team is actively engaged in the installation of multicores for the 132 kV protection panel. Cold commissioning is in progress, marking another crucial step in the project’s advancement.
The installation of batteries and the associated charger is now fully completed. Comprehensive testing of these components has been successfully concluded, ensuring their readiness for operation.
The remaining work includes AC installation to the building which stands at 0%, and this task will be addressed in the upcoming phases of the project.
The City of Tshwane is committed to ensuring the timely restoration of Pyramid Substation and the resumption of normal power supply to the affected areas. We appreciate the patience of our residents during this process and assure you that all efforts are being made to expedite the completion of the necessary work.
