Baby zebra naming competition now open with a top prize of two nights’ stay at Rietvlei Nature Reserve

Media statement                                                                                             12 December 2023

Cllr Cilliers Brink

Executive Mayor of Tshwane

To celebrate the recent birth of a baby zebra at Klapperkop Nature Reserve, we would like your help to find a name for the adorable foal.

We would like to choose a name that best fits the young foal’s strong and confident nature. Suggested names should be of African origin with the meaning provided. Be sure to tell us with a few words why you think the name you have suggested should win.

My office and Klapperkop Nature Reserve officials will select the top three names for the baby zebra and thereafter the public will vote for their favourite name via the City’s official social media accounts.

The winner will receive a top prize of two nights’ stay for four people at Rietvlei Nature Reserve. The competition is open to all and entries will close at 15:00 on Friday, 22 December 2023. Email your baby zebra name entries to siphost@tshwane.gov.za.

Please enter this fun competition and visit our nature reserves to enjoy splendid, leisurely outdoor experiences. The City of Tshwane boasts the following fine nature reserves:

  • Rietvlei Nature Reserve
  • Moreleta Kloof Nature Area
  • Wonderboom Nature Reserve
  • Groenkloof Nature Reserve
  • Faerie Glen Nature Reserve
  • Bronkhorstspruit Nature Reserve

One of the highly recommended places to visit is Rietvlei Nature Reserve. The reserve boasts a variety of wildlife, such as buffalo, rhino and cheetah, and offers game drives to visitors.

Groenkloof Nature Reserve is also another highlight offering activities that include horse riding, hiking trails and mountain bike riding. Make sure you do not miss out on fun Tshwane outdoor activities this festive season.
