The City of Tshwane is pleased to join the rest of the world to mark and celebrate World Read Aloud Day. Our Library, Heritage and Information Services Section will drive the City’s Read Aloud Day campaign at Sinehlanhla Primary School in Rethabiseng, Region 7.
The physical address is Sinehlanhla Primary School, 1279 IQwaningi Street, Proper Section, Rethabiseng.
Learners will read the special World Read Aloud Day Nalibali story in English, IsiZulu and Sepedi. The title of the story is The lost kitten by Stacy Fru.
The aim of this campaign is to promote reading in indigenous and mother tongue languages. The Nalibali story has been translated into 12 official languages.
City of Tshwane librarians are pledging to go to 13 local schools in Tshwane and to reach about 7 015 learners during the World Read Aloud Day 2024 campaign.
The local librarians will also go to the local school to read the Nalibali story in different languages.

Learners are encouraged to read in their home language to ensure the continuation and preservation of indigenous languages and for parents to take the lead in inculcating reading habits during their children’s formative years.
Other libraries in the regions will continue to read to participate at World Read Aloud Day at different schools to promote reading on the same day.
This is an important day to encourage young and old to take pleasure in reading books. Reading does not only instil knowledge, but also assists in refreshing one’s mind.
All family members should take this opportunity of creating a culture of reading aloud to children and by children to their families, teachers and caregivers.
