MMC for Corporate and Shared Services

Earlier this week, we delivered on our promise to return to Olievenhoutbosch to finish the work we started two weeks ago under the Executive Mayor’s Urban Management Plan.

In my role as the MMC responsible for Region 4, I conducted a number of site visits in Centurion and Olievenhoutbosch. We started in Ward 57 with pothole and street light repairs on Cantonments Road in Lyttelton, together with pruning trees, cutting grass and clearing storm water drains. I was impressed by the work of the drain-clearing team that was provided by our corporate partners Santam. This is proof of a successful partnership between the City and the private sector that works for the benefit of the community.

We then moved to operations in Olievenhoutbosch, focusing on Wards 77 and 106. Together with the ward councillors, we inspected the pothole repairs and street cleaning being carried out. I would like to highlight the success of the community of Ward 106 in coming together to protect their local infrastructure, resulting in no cable theft for the past year. This was in the face of constant cable theft that left the local community without power for days at a time.

The urban management teams also repaired street lights along Waterburg Road in Olievenhoutbosch. These had been out for over eight months due to cable theft, but we are hopeful that they will now remain on with the overhead power lines.

Continuing with our commitment to prioritise street lights, in a period of two weeks starting from 29 July to 4 August 2024 and from 5 August to 11 August 2024, Region 4 officials have fixed a combined 600 street lights. More street lights repairs will be rolled out to various regions of the city.

The Mayoral Urban Management Plan is an excellent way to ensure that we tackle core service delivery issues in all communities.
