ARTEFACTS, GLASS INSTALLATION EXHIBITION BY LOTHAR BÖTTCHER AND CAITLIN GREENBERG
26 July 2025 until 31 August 2025 | East Gallery

Artefacts at the Pretoria Art Museum is a collaborative exhibition showing works by Lothar Böttcher and Caitlin Greenberg.
Both artists are known for their passion and specialised use of glass in their oeuvre. This exhibition does not specifically explore materiality and craft, but rather investigates a spectrum of social narratives. Both artists examine inner voices, expressing personal dilemmas and philosophies that invite visitors to experience the space through a fourth dimension – one shaped by memory, emotion and embodied presence.

The Corobrik Collection is a contemporary collection of ceramics that represents the development of studio ceramics and the work of rural traditional South African potters over almost five decades. Initially, the collection was started by Stellenbosch Farmers Winery, which in 1977 became the sponsor of national and regional exhibitions by the Association of Potters of Southern Africa (APSA) and purchased the winning pieces from these exhibitions. In 1982, Corobrik became the sponsor of APSA (now Ceramics Southern Africa) and acquired the collection. Since then, further acquisitions from exhibitions and pieces contributed by members have been added to the collection. The earliest acquired pieces date from 1977 to 2025.
A STORY OF SOUTH AFRICAN ART | Ongoing | Albert Werth Hall

It includes works by early twentieth-century painters, the Resistance artists of the 1980s and artists of the twenty-first century. The exhibition is based on the secondary school syllabus.
FORTHCOMING EXHIBITIONS
SOLO EXHIBITION – AUGURY AFTER AUTOGOGUES BY MINÉ KLEYNHANS
4 September to 2 November 2025 | South Gallery

Augury After Autogogues playfully and satirically stages a kind of speculative mysticism that indulges the sovereignty of “personal truth”. In a time when shared systems of belief are breaking down and facts are met with scepticism, the exhibition imagines the advent (appearance) of the Autogogue: a self-guided mystic who looks inward for meaning, interpreting the world through emotion, affect and intuition.
Miné Kleynhans, the winner of the 2024 Sasol New Signatures art competition, is employed at the University of the Free State’s Art Gallery as the Project Coordinator. As an artist, art project manager and facilitator, she has participated in various experimental, developmental and large-scale international creative projects.

Shadows and Mirrors is an exhibition showing photographic, video, printmaking and multimedia artworks by Thomas Masingi and Neo Mlangeni.
This exhibition investigates issues about identity, particularly in relation to gender. There are so many debates and stereotypes about what being a man or woman is supposed to be. However, people have unique ways in which they wish to perform their masculinity or femininity. These performances of gender are usually done through lenses of our peers, which often leads to a constant need to rehearse our identities so that we fall within what society seems acceptable. This exhibition seeks to bring to light the shadows we carry. It is about embracing all parts of ourselves in order to have a holistic experience of being. We all have aspects of our personalities that we conceal from the world and parts of ourselves that we dislike.
Shadows and Mirrors opens on Saturday, 13 September 2025, at 11:00 at the Pretoria Art Museum and can be viewed until Sunday, 19 January 2026.
