The City of Tshwane’s water distribution network is still under severe strain as the inflow from Rand Water persists at a low level, which has been exacerbated by high consumption.
The exceedingly high consumption by consumers has adversely impacted the main receiving reservoirs in Regions 1, 3 and 4, which are at critical levels, with some already running empty.
As of this morning, Wednesday, 11 February 2026, the Soshanguve Block L and Mabopane Reservoirs were still empty. Our teams are closely monitoring these two reservoirs, which continue to experience the most strain and require sustained inflows before meaningful recovery can be reflected.
Pretoriusrand, Klipgat, Kruisfontein and Mabopane main reservoirs still reflect critically low levels, while the Soshanguve Block DD Reservoir is stable, albeit at critically low levels.
The Laudium and Atteridgeville HL Reservoirs, which were depleting at an accelerated pace yesterday afternoon, 10 February 2026, have now been stabilised. These systems are currently performing within acceptable levels.
It must be emphasised that the persistent high consumption levels are negatively impacting the recovery process of the affected reservoirs. We are once again imploring customers to reduce their consumption levels to save the City’s distribution network from collapsing.
The City will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide further updates as conditions change.
