Every effort is being made to complete the Townlands Social Housing Project in Marabastad to accommodate the first tenants before the end of year. The Social Housing Regulatory Authority (SHRA) approved a list of 691 beneficiaries that was submitted by the Housing Company Tshwane.
This project is considered as one of the country's biggest social housing ventures and consists of 1 200 mixed units. It will benefit Tshwane residents who do not qualify for government-sponsored housing or who are not earning enough to qualify for a home loan (people who earn between R1 500 and R15 000 per month). Housing Company Tshwane is managing this multimillion-rand social housing project.
The Townlands project plays an important role in bringing residents closer to economic nodes to access job opportunities. It will be easier and less expensive for tenants to reach their workplaces. "Urbanisation and integration of living spaces is an integral part of our housing strategy as the Human Settlements Department," said the MMC for Human Settlements, Cllr Abel Tau. "We are looking forward to approved beneficiaries moving in as it has been a long process, but we are now finally reaching the promised land."
