The City of Tshwane's Inaugural Council meeting which had initially been scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, 18 November 2021, has been postponed to next week Tuesday, 23 November 2021.
The postponement comes after this morning's consultations between the acting City Manager, Ms Mmaseabata Mutlaneng, and members of the political parties represented in the City of Tshwane Council, during which meeting the councillors requested time to finalise negotiations on a possible coalition government.
The local government elections of 1 November 2021 did not produce an outright winner to govern the City of Tshwane. Consequently, parties are frantically hard at work to cobble together a coalition government.
All the logistical arrangements are still in place to ensure the smooth running of the constitution of the new Council in the capital city.
Ms Mutlaneng will preside over the swearing-in of the political office-bearers (councillors) and the election of the Speaker of Council, after which the Speaker will take over the reins and preside over the election of the Executive Mayor and the Chief Whip of Council. Acting Chief Magistrate Vusimuzi Mahlangu will oversee the swearing-in ceremony.
Details of the event are as follows:
Date: 23 November 2021
Venue: Tshwane House Council Chamber, 320 Madiba Street, Pretoria
