Earlier today, I embarked on a door-to-door drive to hand over title deeds to beneficiaries in Eersterust, Region 6. Currently, we have about 200 title deeds that are due to be issued to residents, however, today we managed to reach ten beneficiaries.
Our distribution drive is aimed at accelerating the issuing of title deeds to beneficiaries, especially to vulnerable groups, such as the elderly and residents who have been waiting for a long time.
Previously, the City had struggled to reach beneficiaries due to several reasons, including change of contact details without notifying municipal offices.
I am very pleased that, through our commitment, we have been able restore a sense of hope in our communities by issuing title deeds to provide security of tenure to these beneficiaries.
During my six months' tenure as MMC for Human Settlements, we have so far registered more than 4 300 title deeds and issued about 2 800 of these to beneficiaries.
The distribution of title deeds is an ongoing process and remains a core priority of the current multiparty administration.
