Earlier today, in my capacity as MMC for Human Settlements, together with the CEO of Housing Company Tshwane (HCT), Ms Obakeng Nyundu, we hosted a viewing session at the Marabastad Townlands Social Housing Project for 154 approved beneficiaries. Other approved beneficiaries are scheduled to view the units during the course of the week.
Overall, 691 beneficiaries have been approved for occupation before the end of the calendar year.
While on-site viewing the units, I had a chance to engage with some of the approved beneficiaries, many of whom are young professionals who have been looking for opportunities to stay closer to their workplaces for a long while. The social housing project also offers an opportunity for beneficiaries to have easy access to economic nodes and other opportunities.
The multimillion-rand social housing project is managed by HCT, a social housing entity of the City and consists of 1 200 mixed units.
Townlands will cater for the residents of Tshwane who do not qualify for government subsidy houses nor earn enough to qualify for a home loan (earning between R1 500 and R15 000 per month).
The City of Tshwane is looking forward to opening the doors to all approved beneficiaries. This is only the first phase and HCT will announce when the application process for Phase 2 gets underway.
