On behalf of the City of Tshwane, I would like to extend my best wishes to all our learners from the inland provinces who are going back to school for the 2023 academic year starting today, 11 January 2023. Coastal schools will follow suit later this month
on 18 January 2023.
The back-to-school period is an exciting time for all, especially for parents, teachers and learners. To all the new learners who may be feeling nervous, particularly Grade 1 learners who are embarking on their first day of school, I want to wish you all the best.
I am sure today will be enjoyable, with new friends and great memories. To all the returning learners, welcome back! May you keep progressing well in your studies.
To the teachers, school management and parents, let me express my thanks to you for the commitment you have shown towards advancing education for our children. I know that there are many challenges in our public schools, including economic difficulties with fees and uniforms, but through all of this you have shown continued resilience.
Let me also take this opportunity to wish the best of luck to the 2022 Matric class whose results will be released later this month.
