Requirements for Indigent Burial or Cremation assistance
The person requesting indigent burial services must provide the following:
His/her identity document (South African green barcoded identity document or smart card)
The deceased’s identity document (South African green barcoded identity document or smart card) or birth certificate
An affidavit made at the South African Police Service by a family member or relative, declaring that he/she cannot afford to bury or cremate the deceased due to a lack of income
A confirmation letter from the ward or proportional representative councillor
The burial or cremation should take place within Tshwane’s boundaries.
Assistance Offered for Indigent Burials or Cremations
Transfer of the body from where the person died (within the borders of Tshwane) to the premises of the funeral undertaker
All relevant services provided by the medical practitioner, including the official registration of the death
Transfer of the body from the funeral undertaker to the deceased’s home and to the cemetery
