Apply for a Business or Trade Licence

Upon submission, your business application will be forwarded to various municipal departments to ensure that compliance requirements are met. These include health services, noise and air pollution control, public safety, fire services, urban planning and building control.

 

Inspection of the premises will be carried out by the departments concerned, and once all departments are satisfied, have returned favourable reports and recommend approval, your trade licence will be issued.

 

New business or trade licence requirements

The following documents are compulsory and must be submitted with any new application:

  • Zoning certificate with A4 map, which can be obtained at 3rd Floor, Middestad Building, 252 Thabo Sehume Street, Pretoria CBD

  • Certified copy of identity document or Department of Home Affairs documents
  • Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) registration of business documents or an affidavit if a person is a sole proprietor
  • Copy of lease agreement (only for home enterprises)
  • Copy of liquor licence (if applicable)
  • Copy of gambling authority (if applicable)
  • Copy of proof of residence
  • Affidavit and certified copy of identity document of stand or erf owner if Residential 5 and the business is not in control of the stand or erf owner (if applicable)
  • Menu in case of a restaurant (cafe keeper)
  • Certificate of acceptability (issued by the Municipal Health Services Section)
  • Fire clearance certificate

Renewal of business or trade licence

 Business owners should note that a business or trade licence is renewable after 12 months.

The following documents are compulsory and must be submitted with any renewal:

  • Copy of previous licence
  • Copy of identity document or Department of Home Affairs documents
  • Copy of liquor licence (if applicable)
  • Copy of menu (if applicable)
  • Copy of gambling authority (if applicable)
  • Copy of fire safety compliance letter
  • Copy of certificate of acceptability for food premises letter
  • Copy of updated lease or title deed (only for home enterprises)
  • CIPC registration of business documents
