Application for New Electricity Supply (Standard Connection)
A standard connection is a type of electricity connection with a reticulation cable to the premises that is already laid up to the boundary of the premises, specifically to provide the premises with electricity. For a standard connection, the payable fee is determined by applying the applicable approved tariff without conducting an on-site investigation.
Note: time frame for connection depends on the availability of electricity meters.
Customers who reside within the City of Tshwane’s municipal boundary but in areas where electricity is supplied by Eskom cannot submit applications to the City of Tshwane for a prepaid meter or new electricity supply. These customers are advised to visit Eskom customer care offices or call the Eskom national customer care line at 08600 ESKOM or 08600 375 66 for information related to their needs.

Application for New Electricity Supply (Non-Standard Connection)
A non-standard connection is a connection to the premises where the required connection must be provided by connecting the cable from the existing network to provide the premises with electricity, provided that the required capacity is available. The cost for a non-standard connection is determined by taking into consideration the amount of capacity required, which influences the bulk services contribution (development charges) and the connection fee.
Who qualifies to apply?
The applicant must be the owner of the property (proof of ownership is required).
If the applicant is not the owner of the property, he/she must provide authorisation from the owner or landlord.
If the property belongs to the City of Tshwane, a copy of the lease agreement must be submitted.

Costs
The service will attract costs, which will be determined by the quota charge and connection fee.
The cost for a non-standard electricity connection includes a quota charge and connection fee, and is calculated by the electrical engineer. The quota charge is calculated by taking into consideration the electrical capacity required, the connection fee, and the cost of the work that must be done to provide the connection.
