Food vending trailer licence

Businesses preparing and selling food from a food trailer are required to apply for a food vending trader licence.

Requirements

• Copy of identity document
• Modus operandi: Description of the kind of business, and the days and hours when business will be conducted
• Sketch of the proposed site (location)
• Photos of the inside and outside of the trailer as well as the licence registration number
• Certified roadworthy certificate for the trailer
• If on private property, the original permission of the landlord must be submitted
• NB: Written proof of access to toilet facilities (where applicable)
• Trailer size: Maximum measurements: 2 750 mm (length), 1 910 mm (width) and 2 500 mm (height from the ground)

Informal trade licence

All informal traders must apply for a valid licence or permit. Traders should visit the Economic Development Division offices to enquire about the specific licence applicable to their business.

Informal traders should take note that the application procedure for a permit requires applicants to adhere to the following:

• Attend a compulsory compliance by-law workshop
• Identify the trading site
• The Tshwane Metro Police Department or the business regulatory compliance team will conduct a site inspection to confirm the trading site
• Pay the applicable fees (as per the City of Tshwane and gazetted tariffs)
• Submit a copy of your identity document
• Submit written proof of access to ablution facilities (where necessary)

Event licence

If you are selling perishable or non-perishables goods during an event you need an event licence for the specific event.

Requirements

• Copy of identity document
• Proof of residence
• Attend a compliance workshop (where necessary)
• Completed application form
• If food will be sold the applicant must be in possession of Health Certificate R638
