MMC FOR ROADS AND TRANSPORT ENCOURAGES COMMUTERS TO RENEW THEIR CONCESSION CARDS

In my capacity as MMC for Roads and Transport in the City of Tshwane, I would like to remind our commuters with concession cards to renew them as they expire every calendar year. The renewal of concession cards can be done from 1 January every year. Our current concession cardholders are scholars, pensioners (aged 60 years and older) and people living with disabilities.

In my recent visit to the City’s walk-in centres, I witnessed many commuters who came to renew their cards waiting to be furnished with new cards. This is a testament to the importance of public transportation and how the City is doing its part to ensure affordable mobility for all its patrons.

Below are the fares and types of concessions available to commuters:

Scholars

Commuters who are enrolled in full-time education (up to Grade 12) and who are not older than 19 years are charged a flat rate of R11,00 (11 points).

Original Birth Certificate/Certified Copy with affidavit are required for an application.

People living with disabilities

A valid South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) document or a letter from a doctor is required. This group is charged a flat rate of R12,50 (12,5 points).

Pensioners

  • Commuters who are 60 years and older
  • Commuters aged 60 to 64 qualify for a discount of 25% during off-peak hours
  • Commuters older than 65 years qualify to travel for free during off-peak hours
  • Standard fees will be charged when travelling during peak hours (Monday to Friday from 06:00 to 08:00 and from 15:30 to 17:00)

Renewing concessions is free. If commuters need to move to a new concession, a new application will cost only R50. Commuters who do not renew their concessions will lose their concession benefits and will default to standard tariffs per distance travelled.

Upon request, the City can visit schools and old age homes for the renewal of concession cards.

As we enter the new year, we look forward to seeing more commuters using our services on A Re Yeng and Tshwane Bus Services.
