City facilitating social services and relief efforts to assist Hammanskraal residents

As the MMC responsible for Community and Social Development Services, I recently visited families affected by the cholera outbreak in Hammanskraal to identify their immediate needs and to establish how the City can assist.

As a first step in assisting the grieving families, the City of Tshwane has deployed social workers to offer counselling services.

Additionally, the City distributed packaged personal hygiene essentials, consumable goods and 44 blankets to affected families. This follows the distribution of 10 000 litres of bottled water earlier in the week.

The City will continue to assess the needs of affected families, especially where the main dependent is deceased and children are left without a bread winner, and implement measures required for family support and assistance.

Our multiparty coalition would like to thank all stakeholders who have reached out through various temporary relief donations to minimise the impact of this cholera outbreak.

The City will continue to supply potable water through water tankers while we pursue implementing long-term solutions.
