City of Tshwane encourages residents to continue supporting Mandela Month

Earlier this week, the City of Tshwane honoured an invitation by the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) to spend 67 minutes for Mandela Day  at the Jehovah Jireh Orphanage Centre in Soshanguve.

The orphanage was established in 2003 in response to the increasing number of children orphaned because of their parents’ chronic illnesses. It is a fully accredited centre, providing safety for 35 children from 0 to 20 years of age. They also run a day care centre called Thusa Bana, made up of 27 children, 4 youths, 7 teachers and 14 caregivers.

The team attended to maintenance issues in the building, followed by the City’s electricity team who repaired streetlights and high-mast lights around the orphanage. The team donated a substantial number of toys, clothing,  sanitary packs, 30 matrasses and 30 blankets.

Other technical teams from the City trimmed and pruned the threes and repaired leaking pipes, while the Expanded Public Works Programme team cleaned the yard and picked up litter. The Environment and Agriculture Management Department team provided trees and seeds for planting.

We remain committed to our mission of improving the lives of vulnerable groups. The multiparty coalition also encourages all residents to continue to support Mandela Month and give back to communities.
