Over the past 72 hours, the City of Tshwane has established appropriate operations, maintenance, repair and restoration of power supply to Region 3, which include the Pretoria Central Business District, Atteridgeville, Brooklyn and Danville, among others, by means of its hard-working electricity teams, augmented by contractors.
Since Wednesday, 20 September 2023, and after strong winds swept through the region on Tuesday, 19 September 2023, the electricity teams have been attending to complaints related to tree branches that fell on power lines, and they are continuing to fix storm-related power outages, with success in the following areas: Saulsville, Mountain View, Hatfield, Monumentpark, Gezina, Lynnwood, Pretoria West, Rietfontein and Daspoort.
Given the sheer volume of faults (which at times recur after restoration) and the severity of the storm damage to infrastructure, residents are informed that these factors have an impact on the restoration times.
The City would like to assure residents that it is committed to focusing on outages, and teams are attending to blackouts as quickly as humanly possible.
The City had earlier announced a water supply interruption that affected Sunnyside and surrounding areas, which was resolved within a short period.
As the City receives notices of caution from Rand Water about high water usage across the seven regions, it is apparent that some of the suburbs in Region 3 fall under the top-ten high consumers in the municipality. Residents of Garsfontein, Queenswood, Laudium and Atteridgeville are urged to use water prudently.
The waste collection and disposal catch-up plan is gaining momentum under the protection of the security services. The City hopes to reinstate the normal refuse collection schedule in due course.
Service delivery progress in other regions will be provided in due course or as and when it is available.
