Rooiwal Waste Water Treatment Works (WWTW) is now ready for operational
optimisation following the successful power switch from the Bon Accord Power Line to
the newly rebuilt Pyramid Substation today.
Pyramid Substation was successfully rebuilt in just 18 days after it was damaged by
fire, which was caused by severe storms that swept through parts of the city last
month. The rebuilding project, which was completed within the projected schedule,
involved demolishing the damaged structure, panels, feeder cables, circuit breakers,
132 kV isolator and key transformer components.
During the rebuilding process, the power supply to Rooiwal WWTW was temporarily
rerouted from a refurbished, previously underused power line from Bon Accord. The
power has now been switched back to the original supply from Pyramid Substation
after the City’s technicians confirmed that the electricity at the substation is stable.
Aeration required for the biological treatment of waste water will be started in
phases under the supervision of a contractor due to the sensitivity of the specialised
equipment.
The full restoration and operation of all infrastructure at Rooiwal WWTW is receiving
the necessary attention to ensure the continuous treatment of waste water.
