Update: City bus operations remain operational amid challenges

I would like to inform commuters and the wider public that A Re Yeng and Tshwane Bus Services (TBS) operations remain operational amid challenges. The City will continue to forge ahead with the operations in line with the required and necessary support from the security cluster.

We are facing relentless acts of criminality, as three of our buses were attacked this afternoon. However, we will not yield to violence and criminality. The Tshwane Metro Police Department and the South African Police Service have already arrested four suspects in connection with the attacks. Therefore, our services will continue tomorrow with our security plans.

Regarding A Re Yeng, our morning bus shift did not experience interruptions and bus drivers attended their posts as expected. The following A Re Yeng routes will be operated:

  • T1: Wonderboom – Menlyn
  • C2: Wonderboom – Gezina – Sunnyside
  • F4: Sunnyside – Muckleneuk – Groenkloof
  • F10: Church Square – Pretoria Station
  • F11: Loftus – Hatfield

Operations will only take place during the following peak hours: 06:00 to 09:00 and 14:00 to 20:00.

TBS is scheduled to work its full normal operations and times. However, earlier today only 46 out of 160 morning bus shifts were operating according to their normal schedules. The City will follow due process and engage all bus drivers who refuse to carry out their duties.

The afternoon shift bus service will be operational and continue despite these challenges, and the City will continue to forge ahead to serve our commuters. We call on the security cluster to maximise efforts to ensure safety and security. We will monitor operations closely and keep our commuters abreast of developments.
