Cllr Ofentse Madzebatela
MMC for Human Settlements
Today, the Executive Mayor of Tshwane, Cllr Cilliers Brink, and I paid a visit to the recently launched Townlands Social Housing Project in the Pretoria CBD.
The visit by the Executive Mayor follows yesterday’s official launch of the housing project by Housing Company Tshwane, with the support of the national government and other partners.
The Townlands Social Housing Project is a multimillion-rand development that boasts 1 200 units of various sizes and includes modern amenities, such as a community hall, football pitch, netball and volleyball fields, outdoor gym and other recreational facilities.
As MMC for Human Settlements, I would like to call on interested residents to take advantage of this opportunity for decent and dignified housing and to apply for a subsidised rental unit that is close to the inner city with accessible transport to businesses, workplaces and schools.
Phase 2 of tenanting has begun. Applications and information about qualifying criteria are available at the Housing Company Tshwane offices in the Absa Building, first floor, 310 Pretorius Street.
The City is also working on three other social housing developments to assist residents:
- Chantelle Housing Project in Pretoria North has begun construction with over 1 000 units planned.
- Timberland Housing Project in Arcadia and Sunnyside Housing Project are also in the planning.
The City has long prioritised Townlands and attended to all the challenges until its completion. We are proud of this housing project, and we are building more dignified housing opportunities for our residents.
