Some areas in Tshwane are without electricity following a fire incident at the 132 kV Waltloo Substation.
The Waltloo Transformer 1B caught fire just after midnight. This incident led to power trips in the supply areas of the Rooiwal, Pyramid, Phumulani, Waltloo and Koedoespoort Substations, which are currently experiencing power outages.
The City of Tshwane Emergency Services Department responded promptly to douse the fire, which has now been completely extinguished. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
A team of technicians, which has been dispatched to the scene, is currently conducting the assessment. The team will immediately begin with repairs once the assessments on the extent of the damage and the amount of material needed have been completed.
The estimated restoration time for the mentioned substations is still not known.
