This event was hosted in partnership with Local Governments for Sustainability (ICLEI Africa – International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives, the South African Local Government Association and the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment.
The Town Hall COP is a local-level, multistakeholder engagement platform, designed in the spirit of the COPs of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Its aim is to influence South Africa’s national position ahead of COP 30, which will be held in Brazil in November 2025.
A Town Hall COP expresses how climate change is experienced at both the City and grassroots level and explores what actions can effectively address climate impacts. To achieve this local voice, it brings together key actors from government, civil society, youth, traditional leadership, academia and business to engage in meaningful dialogue that reflects the unique challenges and opportunities of the local context
