On Wednesday, 5 November 2025, the City of Tshwane’s Water and Sanitation Business Unit will carry out two tie-in connections along Salie Street in The Orchards, Extension 116.
The scheduled work involves the installation of a new T-piece and valve on the existing 315 mm uPVC water pipeline in Salie Street, south of Rachel de Beer Street, while the second tie-in connection will link the existing 160 mm uPVC water pipeline with the newly installed 315 mm water pipeline in Salie Street.
This essential work is expected to take 10 hours to complete, from 08h00 to 18h00, and may result in a water supply interruption in the following areas:
- The Orchards Extensions 55, 56 and 57
- 367 stands in The Orchards
The City of Tshwane apologises profusely for the inconvenience which may be caused as a result of the above-mentioned work.
Residents are urged to adopt the following water-conservation measures as part of their daily routine:
- Do not water or irrigate gardens with hosepipes or sprinkler systems between 06:00 and 18:00.
- Do not wash vehicles with hosepipes.
- Do not fill swimming pools.
Residents are further urged to keep on using grey water to water gardens and flush toilets. Residents should report water leaks, burst pipes and all incidents where water is wasted. Where possible, water-saving devices should be installed.
Residents should make water conservation part of their everyday lives by making use of the following water-saving tips:
- Install a low-flow shower head and tap aerators, where possible.
- Use a dual-flush toilet cistern.
- Plant indigenous or drought-resistant shrubs in the garden.
- Use a broom instead of a hosepipe when cleaning driveways or patios.
- Collect rainwater to reuse in the garden or wash the car.
- Cover the swimming pool to reduce water evaporation.
- Take a quick shower rather than a bath.
- Close a running tap while brushing teeth or shaving.
- Regularly check toilets and taps for leaks.
