Littering remains one of the biggest challenges facing our city. Every day, waste such as paper, empty bottles, plastic and food containers is carelessly discarded in public spaces, streets, main roads and open areas. This does not only spoil the beauty of our environment but also places an unnecessary burden on municipal resources that could be used for service improvements.
Litter affects everyone. It blocks stormwater drains, causes flooding during heavy rains and creates breeding grounds for pests and rodents. Furthermore, litter often ends up in rivers and polluting our natural ecosystem.
We all have a role to play in keeping our city clean. Residents are encouraged to do the following:
- Use the waste bins provided and ensure that waste is properly disposed of.
- Avoid throwing waste from moving vehicles.
- Encourage other community members to respect public spaces by cleaning up waste during and after events.
- Participate in community clean-up campaigns to help restore pride in our communities.
A cleaner environment starts with each of us. Let’s work together to make our city a place we can all be proud of, beautiful, healthy and welcoming for everyone.
