The City of Tshwane is pleased to announce significant progress in its ongoing mission to restore and improve municipal services across Region 4. The MMC responsible for Region 4, Cllr Kholofelo Morodi, has reported substantial service delivery milestones achieved during January 2026, marking a decisive step towards a more reliable and well-maintained urban environment.
A key highlight of this intensified drive is the successful repair of 1 459 street lights throughout the region. This focused effort is part of a broader initiative that includes critical pothole repairs, storm water system maintenance and strategic tree pruning – all aimed at enhancing community safety and infrastructure resilience.
To accelerate the restoration of road infrastructure, the City has deployed advanced Jetpatcher technology in areas such as Olievenhoutbosch and Lyttelton Manor. This high-tech machinery represents a significant upgrade in road maintenance, allowing teams to patch potholes with high-quality precision in half the time required by traditional methods. This ensures that the region’s roads are safer and more roadworthy for all residents and motorists.
In a move to prevent utility obstructions and property damage, municipal teams are currently implementing a targeted and intensified tree pruning operation across the region.
“Our approach as a government is to be proactive rather than reactive,” said Cllr Morodi. “By carefully removing overgrown trees in high-risk areas, we are significantly reducing the risk of power outages and damage to residents’ property. This preventative maintenance is crucial for the reliability of our services.”
The City’s technical teams are currently deployed throughout several suburbs, including Monavoni, Olievenhoutbosch, Celtisdal and The Reeds, ensuring that –
- road surfaces are smooth and repaired;
- street lights are fully functional to enhance public safety; and
- storm water drains are cleared to mitigate the risk of flooding during the rainy season.
Cllr Morodi reaffirmed the City’s unwavering commitment to Tshwane residents. “We remain steadfast in the City’s mission of ‘igniting excellence’. Our commitment to restoring and improving the City of Tshwane is unwavering as we continue to push forward services that enhance the quality of life for all our residents.”
This latest service delivery drive underscores the City’s dedication to building a reliable, efficient and people-centred municipal government – truly working towards “a City that works for all its people”.
