The City of Tshwane invites small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs), informal traders and township business owners to come and register their businesses with the City.
At the beginning of the week on Monday, 20 April 2026, the Executive Mayor of Tshwane, Cllr Nasiphi Moya, and the MMC for Economic Development and Spatial Planning, Cllr Sarah Mabotsa, visited Olievenhoutbosch in Region 4. This follows a successful Re A Spana operation held in the area that led to illegal trading stalls being demolished. This formed part of efforts to clean and clear the area and to rebuild the informal sector in accordance with the City’s Informal Trading and Township Economy By-law.
The purpose of the most recent visit was to identify land for informal trading spaces and to undertake oversight of the assistance provided to the informal economy. The plan is to allocate designated trading spaces in order to enable the informal traders to sell their goods in line the with the approved by-laws of the City and to regularise all informal traders in the City.
As part of ensuring that informal traders in the area are compliant, and to support and regularise the informal trading sector, the City will be assisting traders with registering their businesses.
Registered businesses will be able to get a trading licence and to have trading spaces allocated, once all the processes have been completed.
The details for registration for businesses are as follows:
Dates: 23 and 24 April 2026
Venue: Olievenhoutbosch Community Hall
Time: 08:00 to 16:00
Informal traders who wish to register their businesses will require the following:
- Copy of identity document
- Proof of residence
- Filled-in application form (forms will be provided at the venue)
Informal trading forms a critical part of building Tshwane’s economy, and we need to ensure that everyone who does business in Tshwane complies with the City’s by-laws in order for them to receive the needed support.
