class of 2019

Tshwane’s class of 2019 is the cream of the crop

Earlier this month, the Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, announced the overall matric results and it was clear that Gauteng, and in particular Tshwane, had done well. The city also made its mark for having two of the top three performing districts in the country, with progressed learners included. The Tshwane South and Tshwane North districts were placed in first and third position respectively.

Today, the acting Executive Mayor, Cllr Abel Tau, hosted an awards ceremony for the 42 top achievers in Tshwane. The City of Tshwane rightfully takes great interest in the performance of learners in general, and Grade 12 learners in particular. It is this very interest that should remind us that education is everybody’s business.

The acting Executive Mayor is very proud of the learners’ achievements and he stated that they are the agents of change, community builders as well as ambassadors of the city. He further encouraged them to focus on excelling at university and to continue behaving like the champions they are. “Always be the best version of who you want to be,” he said.

We are very proud of the class of 2019. They give true meaning to our slogan, “Igniting Excellence.”
